My Story – Shivam Pal

I’m a creative type of individual who has always been passionate about exploring and learning new fields when it comes to both technological and artistical fronts. Since childhood, I’ve frequently found myself attracted to various sports and instruments, which led me to take up playing the guitar, acting and singing as a leisure activity. I soon realized that such activities aided my personal growth as it helped me concentrate on myself, boost my creative thinking skills, and facilitated in me becoming mindful of my current situation while simultaneously gaining self-confidence.

As the years rolled on, I found that I had gradually transformed into someone who put his personal needs second and behind what others required of me. My workscape began with me being hired as a software developer. During my tenure, I constantly felt that my skills of public speaking, leadership and team management were not being utilized efficiently. This resulted in me wanting to try out a profession which would me more suitable for my skillset.
I considered myself lacking in self-confidence, as I was slow to stand up for myself and make the decision to quit my job. It took me 3 long years to gather up the courage to change my professional field and come to Australia to pursue my Masters Degree in Project Management. It was in the final semester of this course, whereby fate, I was selected for an industry project involving Self unLimited.

As part of the project, I was introduced to Self unLimited. Many of the things I learnt about being Self unLimited, started to materialise in my daily habits. I began to feel more productive in my life than ever before. Instead of procrastinating, I found myself actively practicing habits that I had let go of. I resumed exercising, cooking, reading, and playing the guitar on a daily basis instead, as I now gave priority to self-care. After performing these activities, I found myself mentally stimulated to face the tasks that laid out in front of me, and my negative mindset had dissipated.

The mindsets of Self unLimited’s helped me take greater charge of my life as I genuinely began to consider myself as “an organisation-of-one” instead of me working for one. This change resulted in a boost in my performance at my current role as an Energy Sales Executive as well, for which I received awards and recognition. Additionally, it helped me to become more proactive in my approach to completing tasks handed to me. Such a mental change is extremely powerful, as it helps you to believe in yourself and have faith in your decisions. To be brave to challenge yourself and take the next steps that are required for your workscape to evolve.

One way my workscape is evolving is to add creativity back in. I’ve taken my passion for singing and playing to the next stage and made myself a recording setup. I decided to take up these activities as a part of my workscape as it aided me in staying remain calm under stressful work-related situations and be mindful about my concentration and dedication to my job. Additionally, it helped me understand and implement the responsibility of Reign, to shape and direct my personal workscape. It is a reminder to always put my needs into the equation of what is needed of me in working. My ultimate goal as I continue to tread on this path in evolving my habits, is to be able to create my own music.

To adopt a Self-unLimited approach has been personally enhancing on a personal front as well as at work. I feel empowered to think about what is important to me and make well balanced practical decisions to create contentment in the way I live. I strongly believe that when I am satisfied with who I am today, I radiate positivity to all aspects of my life, which in turn will reap benefits to propel me further in life.

Shivam started his workscape in 2015 as a software developer and has since had to a variety of roles including sales executive, team leader, and project coordinator. His current goal is to become an effective Project Manager. He has very creative hobbies including playing the guitar, recording music, reading and sketching.
